With the “30 Years GS” special models, BMW celebrates the anniversary of the most successful model series ever. In its mature modern state, a “GS” is more up-to-date now than ever before. 30 years ago in 1980, a new type of motorcycling came into being which merged a number of different trends to create a completely new and unique concept: a supreme style of travel, both on the road and on rough ground, suitable for both sports and touring, with a powerful engine and a robust structure. The GS class was born with the original forebear of the series, the R 80 G/S - the G standing for the German word “Gelände” (terrain) and the S for “Sport” and later for “Strasse” (road).

From the very beginning white/blue/red was the colour code for a GS – derived from the company’s motor racing colours. The F 650 GS injects a dash of adventure into everyday motorcycling due to its special paint finish in Alpine White with an exclusive 3-colour decor, the lettering “30 Years GS” and a red seat with a 3-dimensional embossment of the GS logo.
